Inspired by the popularity of Indie Films Fernie monthly screenings, a dedicated group of volunteers decided to plan a festival in honour of Canadian Film. The first Reel Canadian Film Festival was held in Fernie in 2009 with 4 feature films and a sold-out opening night.
Over more than a decade, the Reel Canadian Film Festival has remained firm in its dedication to showcase the talent, skill, diversity, and independence of the Canadian Film Industry. The festival features the year’s best Canadian productions, International films with Canadian locations, and any feature that celebrates the talents of Canadian actors, directors, cinematographers, and supporting crew-members. REEL is proud to work with major Canadian Film Festivals including TIFF, CUFF, CIFF, EIFF and independent film houses.
The Reel Canadian Film Festival was first held in 2009, and organised by a committee of the The Arts Station. The Reel Canadian Film Society was founded in 2018 to continue the legacy and present an exceptional festival on an annual basis. REEL will continue to showcase award-winning feature films, shorts and children’s programming, gala receptions and special guests.
We have been proud to welcome many celebrated guests, including:
