About Us

Reel 2018 Opening Night GalaInspired by the popularity of Indie Films Fernie monthly screenings, a dedicated group of volunteers decided to plan a festival in honour of Canadian Film. The first Reel Canadian Film Festival was held in Fernie in 2009 with 4 feature films and a sold-out opening night.

Over a decade, the Reel Canadian Film Festival has remained firm in its dedication to showcase the talent, skill, diversity, and independence of the Canadian Film Industry. The festival features the year’s best Canadian productions, International films with Canadian locations, and any feature that celebrates the talents of Canadian actors, directors, cinematographers, and supporting crew-members. REEL is proud to work with major Canadian Film Festivals including TIFF, CUFF, CIFF, EIFF and independent film houses.

With gratitude to The Arts Station for 10 years of support, the festival organisers founded The Reel Canadian Film Society in 2018 and are excited to now move forward as an independent festival organisation to continue the legacy and present an exceptional festival in 2019 and beyond. REEL will continue to showcase award-winning feature films, shorts and children’s programming, gala receptions and special guests.

We have been proud to welcome many celebrated guests, including:

Recognized as a destination event, REEL is now a firm favourite on the Fernie events calendar, attracting a passionate local and visiting audience.

Join us January 25 – 27, 2019 in beautiful Fernie BC at the Vogue Theatre.
